When I started sharing my travels online, I had no idea how content creators actually earned money. Pretty pictures? Yes. Income? Not so clear. But over time, I learned that if you create valuable content; tips, guides, inspiration – there are real ways to monetize it. And one of the most useful platforms I’ve found is the GetYourGuide Creator Community.

I’ve been part of the GetYourGuide Creator Community for a while now, and in this post I want to share exactly how travel creators can earn money with them, what the requirements are, and what my personal experience has been so far.

What is GetYourGuide?

If you’re new to it: GetYourGuide is a booking platform for tours, activities, and experiences worldwide.

Think cooking classes in Rome, sunset cruises in Lisbon, day trips to Versailles – all bookable in one app or website.

It’s like Booking.com, but instead of hotels, you book the fun parts of travel!

GetYourGuide Creator Community

What is the GetYourGuide Creator Community?

The Creator Community is GetYourGuide’s program for influencers, bloggers, and travel content creators. When you’re accepted, you don’t just get access to affiliate links, you also get:

  • Sponsored experiences worldwide (free tours/activities to review & share)
  • Workshops with travel industry experts
  • Networking sessions with other creators
  • Audience growth opportunities (content campaigns, cross-promotion)
  • Affiliate earnings and paid opportunities

I like to think of it as more than just a monetization tool, it’s also a platform to grow as a creator.

How Creators Earn Money with GetYourGuide

There are three main ways to monetize your content through GetYourGuide:

1. Affiliate Program (My main income source)

Affiliate marketing sounds fancy, but it’s simple: you recommend a product/service and earn commission when people book through your links.

With GetYourGuide:

  • You earn 8% commission on any experience booked via your affiliate link or code.
  • Example: if someone books a €100 food tour you shared → you earn €8.
  • The more you integrate links naturally into your content (blogposts, reels, guides), the more you can earn over time.

For me, this has been the most consistent income stream. Though as a small creator who does this as a hobby and not a full-time job, I don’t earn much.

2. App Installs & In-App Bookings (New opportunity)

Recently, GetYourGuide introduced paid app promotions:

  • You earn €2 per active app install when people download the app via your link.
  • Your followers get an exclusive 5% discount on their first in-app booking with your personal code.
  • You still earn 8% commission on those bookings.

This is a win-win because:

  • Your followers save money.
  • You get paid both for the app download + the booking.

3. Referral Program

This is different from affiliate. With the referral program:

  • You get $8 for each creator you refer to join the community (as long as they’re accepted).
  • Perfect if you know other travel influencers who’d benefit.

This is actually what I’m doing here → sharing my referral link so other creators can apply.

My Honest Experience as a Beginner Creator

I’ve been part of the GetYourGuide Creator Community since February 2025, which is actually just one month after I started my blog and Instagram. So trust me when I say: you don’t need to be a huge creator to get started!

At first, I didn’t earn anything. I simply added affiliate links into my already existing blogposts and new ones I published along the way. It took time. But slowly, things started to change.

My First Sponsored Experience

In July, I was on holiday in London and wanted to do a certain activity with my friend. I thought: why not apply through the Creator Portal for a sponsored activity? To my surprise, I got accepted. GetYourGuide gave me a €30 voucher to spend on an activity of my choice!

The deal was simple: in exchange, I needed to make a reel for Instagram tagging @getyourguide and using their hashtags. That kind of collaboration is called a barter deal, meaning no direct payment, but you get free products or experiences in return for content.

For me, this was a win-win: I got to do an activity I already wanted, and I had content to share with my audience!

Affiliate Bookings & Discount Code

When GetYourGuide introduced their app promo and discount code, things really started picking up. I wrote a separate blogpost highlighting the deal, shared my referral links, and promoted my code.

The biggest change? I started posting my discount code consistently on Instagram (Stories, Reels, Carousels) and not just there, but also on TikTok, Facebook, and even Twitter. Suddenly, my reach was much wider.

Actual Earnings

Now, just two months later, I’ve had about 20 bookings (not including app installs).

  • Bookings: you get paid monthly. You can link your PayPal or bank account, and my first payout landed exactly as promised.
  • App installs: these are paid quarterly via Lamanu. I haven’t received my first quarterly payout yet, so I can’t speak to that experience (yet), but I’ll update when I do.

So far, GetYourGuide has been true to its word, all payments came through exactly as expected.

Where I’m At Now

Since then, I’ve also done another sponsored activity through GetYourGuide, and I’m still earning from the affiliate links I published earlier.

For a beginner creator like me (with 5.8K followers on Instagram), this has been a fantastic opportunity. It doesn’t cost anything to join, it’s low-barrier, and honestly? Even a small extra income is such a nice bonus, especially when it comes from sharing things I genuinely love.

And the best part? If you have an even bigger reach than me, the earning potential is much higher.

Why I Recommend It

For me, GetYourGuide has been more than “another affiliate program.” It’s given me:

  • Actual monetization opportunities
  • Free and discounted experiences that enriched my travels
  • A network of creators with the same passion
  • Access to new growth opportunities

If you’re a travel creator looking to start earning while keeping your content authentic, this is one of the best places to start.

Final Thoughts

I believe in sharing these opportunities openly because I wish I’d known earlier how content creators actually earn money. With GetYourGuide, you don’t need a massive following, just valuable content and consistency.

I started with zero experience and only a small following, and within a few months I’d earned my first payouts, got free experiences, and learned so much from the community.
